OPPORTUNITIES: Get your applications in for Compass’ open calls
Applications are welcome for two open calls we have launched at Compass this month, aimed at young and emerging contemporary dance artists - a residency in Härnösand and a spot on the Compass Stage at 'Tranås at the Fringe'.
Compass Stage at ‘Tranås at the Fringe’
Compass will be present during this year’s Tranås at the Fringe with an event on 7 July 2022, showcasing works from young and emerging dance artists.
We have launched an open call for the Compass Stage, which will feature a selection of performances and an artist talk.
Tranås at the Fringe is a multidisciplinary arts festival in the small town of Tranås (Sweden), a charming place on the edge of lake Sommen, surrounded by the woodlands of Småland.
For eight days, artists from Sweden and other countries from different disciplines in literature, film and performing arts meet and put on about 100 events on 2-9 July 2022.
Artists aged 15-25 with a performance between 15 and 30 minutes long are encouraged to apply. Your performance can be a work-in-progress.
To apply, fill in the form here, including two videos:
Video 1 - footage of the work you are applying with (either from a performance or rehearsal) please make sure that the video features the work as you would like to present it at Tranås at the Fringe and that the video is in quality good enough to feature your proposal well.
Video 2 - up to one minute talking about the work you are applying with and artistic motivation
Compass Stage will take place on 7 July at 17:00 hrs. The planned venue has tiered seating and a front-on audience. The selected artists will be chosen by a panel of young and emerging artists and experienced dance professionals.
Selected artists will have their travel within Sweden and accommodation covered (for up to three people per group) and will receive a fee for their performance of 1000 kr per artist (up to three artists per group - including the choreographer if they are not one of the performers) plus moms when applicable.
Application is open to COMPASS members - it is free to sign up here.
Once you are a member, you can apply here.
The application deadline is 27 May (23:59 CEST).
Decisions will be shared by 7 June.
A mixed curation committee with established professionals and young and emerging artists will choose the works for the Compass Stage.

Application open for residency in Härnösand
COMPASS is offering a two-week residency for young and emerging dance artists aged between 18 and 25, taking place in Härnösand on 18-30 July 2022.
The residency includes:
- Studio space on 18-30 July 2022
- Accommodation of one room for up to two people
- Travel to and from Härnosand within Sweden
- Opportunity to join morning sessions/classes with ilYoung
- Mentorship on the project from ilDance, depending on what you need (artistic, production or coaching)
- Per diem of 230 SEK per person per day for 13 days
This residency will take place at the same time that ilDance’s professional junior company, ilYoung, will also be working in Härnösands Folkhögskola on their new production.
This would offer the artists in residency a supportive and inspiring creative context for their own process. The artist in residency is not requested or expected to interact with ilYoung, but they are welcome to. Morning classes take place daily and artists on residence are welcome to participate in those classes.
This residency is offered by COMPASS, with the support of ilDance, Härnösand Folkhögskola and New Education for Contemporary Dance Härnösand.
