Join the first COMPASS Intensive Weekend

Our first COMPASS Intensive Weekend will take place in Västra Götaland on 4-6 March 2022.

The Intensive Weekend offers young and emerging artists dance classes, workshops, viewing of a live performance and an opportunity to jam among other activities.

The registration deadline is 24th of February. We can only take in a maximum of 30 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. The fee for the entire weekend’s activities is 450 kr.

Don’t let the money get in the way of participation, so we can remove the fee in certain circumstances, please contact hannagodl@ildance.se for more information.

Friday 4 March

18-20:00 - Welcome night
On this first night, we meet up to get to know each other and go through the programme of the following days. We will stream the documentary "Notice, claim, repurpose", following the lives of young and emerging dance artists during their work with ilYoung in summer 2021.

Saturday 5 March

9-12:00 - Physical movement session 1 - with Israel Aloni

The workshop will introduce Aloni’s movement research and development practice - The I.Aloni Practice which employs movement, psychology and philosophy to enrich and expand both the experience of the dancer and the world that they are able to create with their dance.

The workshops will start with improvisation-based warm-up and continue into movement sequences and tasks that experiment with corporeal (the body) consciousness (awareness)

12-13:00 - Lunch break

13-14:00 - Site visit: Konstkollektivet

14-16:00 - Workshop 1 - toolbox
This workshop will provide an overview of different aspects of starting and running your own project, including finances, production, marketing and artistic development.

16:15-17:30 - Workshop 2 - network & community
In this part of the workshop, we will introduce organisations offering tools and support for artists, i.e. project funding, mentorship, classes, networking opportunities, work spaces, etc. The workshop will be led by a guest speaker tbc.

19:30 - Performance: The Body As Reference for (R)Evolution - United Cowboys, presented by Gothenburg Fringe

Sunday 6 March

10-13:00 - Physical movement session 2 - with Aloun Marchal
The class will focus on task improvisation, multitasking, situations where both the voice and the body are involved and structuring improvised material. Another focus will be freedom and its practice: self allowance.

13-14:00 - Lunch

14:30-16:00 - COMPASS talks
This is a space for you to meet peers and talk about the things that are important to you. You will be invited to speak about what is on your mind and discuss the challenges you are facing, what inspired you and ideas for collaborations. There will also be the possibility to join online, for everyone not participating in the rest of the intensive weekend.

16:45-17:30 - Party space jam

This intensive weekend is presented in collaboration with Danscentrum Väst, Frilagret, Konstkollektivet, Gothenburg Fringe and Kolgruvan.
