Emma Östlund and Daniela Carler in a 10-day residency in Tranås
In collaboration with Kultivera and with support from Region Jönköping, COMPASS offered a 10-day residency in Tranås to emerging dancers and choreographers Emma Östlund and Daniela Carler. Both artists spent time on developing ideas for a new performance, with mentorship from Lee Brummer and Stina Nilsson. The residency concluded in a work-in-progress showing and a workshop for Skapa Dans in Huskvarna, in collaboration with Dansfabriken.
Daniela Carler shared some words about her time in residency: “It was a very rewarding week for me as I got to dive into my new research for ‘LandScapes’ that I've been tinkering with for almost a year. I worked by myself in the studio, lived together with Emma, the other artist in residence and had mentoring conversations during which I got the chance to put my bodily expressions into words and brainstorm ideas. The Kultivera team was very supportive and always ready to answer any question. I look forward to continuing to develop LandScapes so stay tuned for what's next!”.
Emma Östlund also narrates her experience:“The residency via COMPASS Dance Makers Space and Kultivera Tranås provided me with an opportunity to deepen my solo research “SCORE” in a calm and creative environment. I was able to immerse myself with the exploration, testing new ideas and tools without the pressure to produce or to have anything finished. Presenting excerpts of my work during SPEKTAKEL allowed me to meet with local artists in different fields and to get to know more about the scene of art growing in Tranås and around. Having the support of Lee Brummer and Stina Nilsson through my process kept my work fresh, as I was offered new perspectives to my work which kept the inspiration flowing.”
